Suggestions for Reusing and Recycling of Glass

from:

If you are concerned about the planet's condition and if you are concerned about her natural resources you will be concerned enough consider the option of reusing and recycling of glass. Concerned citizens and business owners are all on board with recycling of glass bottles and jars to save the landfills from being filled up with inert materials.

The idea of reusing and recycling of glass is a good one, because it saves on the use of the power it takes to generate to make glass from raw materials. It takes much more heat to manufacture glass from sand, soda ash and limestone than it does to make glass from recycled glass. The cost of power to make glass from scratch is astronomical for a year, where it only takes a fraction of the energy to produce glass from already made glass.

Everyone should be involved with the reusing and recycling of glass. There are so many uses we can get out of glass before we toss them into the recycling bin too. The glass jars made by the Ball Company that we use to can with can be used over and over again for canning. Those Ball jars can also be used as drinking glasses; they are ideal because they hold over 20 ounces in volume. If you drink 4 glassfuls of water in the 20 ounce Ball jars each day, you will have exceeded minimum requirement of 8 eight ounce glass of water intake for each day.

When recycling glass for the recycling company you will need to separate glass into different bins. One bin will be for clear glass, one bin will be for brown glass, another bin for blue glass and so on because the colored glass has additives in them to give them their color. Blue glass is made from cobalt being added to the glass, and brown glass is made from iron additives, and green glass is made from chromium additives. Separating the colors when reusing and recycling of glass bottles and jars is important because the additives are impurities. Clear glass would not be clear if sent to the recycling plant and processed with colored glass. Green or blue glass would not be pure if processed with brown glass.

Recycling of glass bottles and jars can be done by using them to arrange flower arrangements for your home or office desk. If you have an imagination you can find uses for your used bottles and jars before you put them into the recycling bin. Reusing and recycling of glass can be done with arts and crafts; one great way to use bottles and jars is to make candles and sand art. You can go online and type reusing and recycling of glass bottles and jars for arts and crafts and you will find lots of ideas.
