Aluminum Recycling Saves Money And Power

from:

When one takes the time to think about how much aluminum is used in their day to day life it becomes clear that this is one of the most widely used materials today. Take a look around. Door and window frames, aluminum cans, aluminum foil, siding, gutters, and many other items are all made from aluminum. When this aluminum is no longer useful, what should be done with it? Throwing it into landfills only takes up space, causes pollution, and wastes perfectly good materials. Aluminum recycling is the smarter way to go, and doesn’t require a lot of effort on the part of those recycling it.

When aluminum is manufactured, it actually uses much more energy than when it is recycled into new products from old products. Recycling aluminum in fact saves up to ninety five percent of the energy that would be needed to product the new material! In a further attempt to get individuals to recycle, legislation is passed in many places requiring a deposit for aluminum cans that is not refunded until the cans have been appropriately recycled. Aluminum recycling is made easy with cans, as recycling centers are usually located within most grocery stores. Once your cans are empty, rinsed, and bagged, bring them on your next shopping trips to cash them in!

Bigger pieces of aluminum require slightly more effort to recycle, however this too has its payoffs. The price of aluminum is greatly increased over what it had been, and scrap yards are currently eager to collect the material. Collecting aluminum from disregarded window and door frames, as well as aluminum siding and other aluminum products can be quite profitable when brought to the scrap yard. A truck load of aluminum scrap can easily yield a few hundred dollars for minimal work and effort.

Aluminum recycling also has significant environmental advantages. Only approximately five percent of the carbon dioxide produced in making virgin aluminum is produced when recycling aluminum from a previously made product. Aluminum ore is used in the production of aluminum, and harvesting this from the earth devastates a vast amount of land. This is quite reduced when aluminum recycling is abundant.

Whether one recycles aluminum because it is good for their environment, good to save energy, or good for their wallet, aluminum recycling is a worthy cause. Reducing the amount of aluminum that enters landfills will also save the city money by reducing the size of the local landfills and creating smaller need for them. Recycling aluminum is a simple process that requires much less work that creating a new product, and should be used whenever possible.
